The Queen of Pop’s first-ever tour is a far cry from her later shows. Over the last few decades Madonna has been creating unique, thunderously entertaining pop shows, and being familiar with her later work makes this recording seem perhaps underwhelming: The stage is stark, there are only two dancers, and the costume changes are negligible. However, Madonna’s energy and enthusiasm never waver across the show’s running time, it’s great to see her perform early hits like “Like a Virgin” and “Into the Groove” in such rudimentary but entertaining ways, and she’s well supported by dancers Michael Perea and Lyndon B. Johnson. It’s not as satisfying as her other tours but it’s a fun way to spend an hour.
