Despite the Spider-Man over-saturation of the last 15 years or so, somehow this latest interpretation of the comic book is deliriously entertaining. It’s interesting that the movie manages to weave the aforementioned over-saturation into its narrative, mending various alternate universe versions of the Spider-Man lore, which makes the finished product feel meta (albeit not in an obnoxious way). The voice work is terrific, with a large parade of celebrities popping up throughout the movie’s two-hour running time, and the animation is deliberately, amusingly reminiscent of graphic novel stylistic conventions. Nicolas Cage and John Mulaney stand out among the parade of celebrity voice performances, but it’s the dynamic between Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales and Jake Johnson’s Peter Parker that leaves the strongest impression.
