At once both winning and melancholy, this holiday comedy has all the makings of a Christmas classic. It manages to celebrate the familial traditions of the season while also highlighting the power of friendship and the blending of the two, without becoming treacly or overly sentimental. The cast is terrific and everyone seems to be having a great time but it’s hard to imagine the movie without Seth Rogen or Joseph Gordon-Levitt: They both seem to genuinely enjoy each other’s company and that camaraderie radiates from the screen, while they share amiable chemistry with everyone else as well. The movie is perhaps a little too long but it doesn’t spoil the experience in any way, this is a charming, hilarious and likable holiday winner.
