Madonna’s first worldwide tour is a rather rudimentary affair in retrospect, but thanks to a parade of her ubiquitous early hits, it’s just about impossible not to go along with it. Madonna herself gives an energetic, committed performance and seems to be working as hard as she can from beginning to end while also maintaining a warm, friendly rapport with the enraptured Italian audience. There aren’t many costume changes or elaborate set pieces that have become synonymous with a Madonna show, but she makes up for it thanks to the strong song selection and her enthusiastic delivery. The dancers and backup performers are nicely woven into the performance, and there’s an energy to the broadcast that comes through even 30 years later.
