Critters: A New Binge (Season 1) (2019)

It’s painful to admit that this attempted “Critters” reboot is a disaster from start to finish, but not nearly as painful as it is to actually sit through all eight episodes. Mind you they’re only about 10 minutes each, but it’s extraordinary to consider how long those few episodes feel when you’re confronted with such bad acting, writing, special effects, narrative flow and directing in each frame of every scene of every episode. There’s a jaw-droppingly misogynistic twist about halfway through that’s telegraphed from the first few scenes, but it’s so stupid that you keep hoping the show won’t succumb to such sexist juvenilia – to no avail. The humor is lowbrow as all hell and that’s fine, because nobody is watching a “Critters” web series for Shakespearean guffaws, but the humor is so aggressively dumb that it makes Adam Sander movies seem like comedic genius by comparison. There’s just no reason to watch this at all, avoid at all costs.
