Fast & Furious (2009)

Although it’s nice to see Vin Diesel and Paul Walker back in the franchise, it’s hard not to notice that both they and the rest of the cast look bored stiff. Nobody can blame them though: The plot here is more murder mystery than any sort of heist, and while it shakes up the formula, it’s also not particularly interesting – after all, this isn’t the type of franchise where the characters matter much, and so getting invested in their emotional vendettas isn’t particularly interesting. The plot moves quickly along, and events happen in the flash of an eye, but the entire movie also feels dull as dirt. Not even the car races, which are the series’ lifeblood, manage to interject much life in the proceedings, although a few stunts here and there make the movie come alive in a way that highlights just how boring and forgettable the rest of it is. To be honest I’m finding it hard to write more about this movie, because even though I watched it just yesterday I’ve already forgotten huge chunks of it. Skip it.
