The dynamic comedic performer delivers her first Netflix stand-up routine with all the excitement of a newcomer and the timing of a seasoned professional. In many ways, the Fortune Feimster we meet here is far calmer and more vulnerable than her onscreen presence usually suggests (like on “The Mindy Project” and “Life in Pieces,” among others), and that approachability makes the hour-long performance all the warmer and entertaining. She recounts stories from her childhood in a fairly chronological way while interspersing it with lively commentary about her own experiences discovering who she is, and her mixture of insight and self-deprecation is a wonderfully effective way of connecting with her core audience as well as discovering a new one. But what makes her presence all the more notable and exciting is her obvious excitement at starring in her own Netflix special: Feimster is positively joyful throughout the performance, and has an inimitable Southern charm and charisma that make her a striking, engaging performer worth watching.
