Ok, I have to be honest here: I’ve seen “Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar” from beginning to end, I’ve watched the numerous trailers a number of times, and I’ve read interviews with star-creators Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo… and while I’m still not quite sure what it’s about or what I watched, I liked watching it a lot anyways? I really don’t know how to explain the plot of the movie, other than to say that it’s about two lifelong friends who live in the Midwest, decide to visit Vista Del Mar, and accidentally get involved in espionage and kidnapping, or something. In some ways it doesn’t even really matter, because this is mostly made up of funny little moments and additions that don’t make a whole lot of sense but are hysterically funny nevertheless. For instance, the two have a conversation with another character where they state that Star’s full name is Starbra but Barb’s full name is Barb: I mean… you either laugh at that or you don’t, and that you should be your litmus test as to whether or not this is for you. So, fans of absurd, non-sequitur comedy like “Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie” and “The Kids in the Hall” will probably adore this, while others will be baffled. Watch for an impressively loose performance by the normally inaccessible Jamie Dornan, who walks away with a number of scenes.
